Over time, we’ve realized that four systems make the biggest difference when it comes to truly relaxing on the road: security, pet safety, remote climate control, and power protection. When these four areas work together, it’s like having an invisible safety net around your RV—quietly watching, monitoring, and stepping in when something goes wrong.

RV Security: Protecting What Matters Most

When you park your RV at a campground or boondocking spot, you’re not just setting up camp—you’re setting up your home. That’s why we believe in layering our security, just like you would in a house.

Our setup starts with the Ring Alarm System, which covers the basics: a base station, keypad, motion detector, and contact sensors. It’s simple, reliable, and integrates with the Ring ecosystem we already knew and trusted.

From there, we added Ring Flood & Freeze Sensors, Smoke & CO Listeners, and several Ring Stick Up Cams—six total. Each camera serves a purpose: some keep an eye on the doorways, others cover the perimeter, and two quietly watches over the interior when we’re gone. We even added a Ring Video Doorbell Plus to know when packages arrive or if anyone approaches.

Our RV’s front door is equipped with the RVLock V4, a major upgrade over the flimsy factory latch. The keypad makes it easy to lock and unlock without fumbling for keys, and the key fobs are perfect for quick access when your hands are full.

When we head out for the day, the Ring app keeps us connected. If motion is detected, or if a sensor triggers, we’re notified instantly—whether we’re at the pool or out exploring town.

Because our RV network gear runs on a backup power supply, we can still access our cameras even if the park power goes down temporarily. That little detail is huge for keeping confidence high, especially when storms roll through or campground power flickers.

And when we travel? We simply pop the outdoor cameras off their adhesive mounts and tuck them inside. They reattach in seconds at the next destination.

It’s a simple, flexible system, and that’s what we love about it. Security shouldn’t feel like overkill—it should quietly do its job in the background, giving you freedom to enjoy the adventure.

Our biggest comfort comes from a small but powerful device called Necto. It constantly monitors our RV’s power, temperature, and humidity, and alerts us the moment something goes wrong.

If the power drops, Necto doesn’t panic right away—it waits a few minutes to see if it returns. If it doesn’t, it sends an immediate notification to our phones. And because it has its own backup battery and built-in cellular connection, it can still reach us even if the RV loses Wi-Fi or total power.

Why we chose Necto over Waggle (and what others say)
We researched both Necto and Waggle before deciding which would best fit our RV setup. Both monitor power, temperature, and humidity and send alerts through built-in cellular service.
Necto ($219.90) includes two years of cellular coverage using AT&T, T-Mobile, and CellularOne, then renews at $7.95/month ($95.40 yearly).
Waggle ($128.70) requires a subscription from day one—around $199 per year.
Over three years, that’s about $315.30 for Necto versus $725.70 for Waggle.
While both perform the same core function, Necto users often report faster, more consistent alerts, whereas some Waggle users mention app or connectivity issues in reviews. Both are solid options—but for us, Necto’s reliability and lower long-term cost made it the clear choice.

We’ve tested it more than once (sometimes unintentionally). There’s something incredibly reassuring about knowing that no matter where we are, we’ll be notified instantly if conditions inside the RV become unsafe.

To add another layer of comfort, we use a Ring camera pointed at our dogs’ bed. We can check in throughout the day and see that they’re comfortable—or snoring, which is usually the case.

Before we leave, we always lower the A/C temperature a few extra degrees. It’s a small habit that adds a little more safety margin. In the event of a short power outage, that pre-cooling buys precious minutes before the temperature inside starts to rise.

Our Jayco North Point came equipped with the JayCommand BMPro system, which lets us monitor and adjust our A/C and heat remotely. It’s not perfect—like most RV tech, it has its quirks—but it’s reliable enough that we can check in or adjust settings even when we’re away.

Having this control adds another layer of safety. If we’re out on a long hike or exploring a nearby town and the weather changes suddenly, we can open the app and bump up the A/C or turn on the heat before we get back.

Power is the lifeblood of your RV, but campground electricity can be unpredictable. We’ve learned this the hard way.

That’s why we trust the Hughes Autoformers Power Watchdog PWD50EPOW—our first line of defense against dirty power. It constantly monitors voltage, amperage, and wattage, and it has an Emergency Power Off (EPO) feature that automatically disconnects your RV when voltage gets dangerously low or spikes too high.

In the summer, especially around 5 or 6 PM when everyone’s cooking dinner and running their A/C units, low voltage can happen fast. Without protection, that fluctuation can silently damage your RV’s electronics.

We’ve had several instances where the Power Watchdog saved the day—literally cutting power before anything got fried. And because it’s connected via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, we can pull up the app and see exactly what’s happening in real time.
