Hidden Paradise sits in a small, quiet town where things slow down, especially on weekends. If you leave the campground, your main stops will likely be a local bar, gas station, or Dollar General.
That said, you are just minutes from White Rock Park, known for cliff diving and swimming. It is one of the more unique nearby attractions.
At night, it is incredibly peaceful. There is no city noise, just nature.

The Campground
Hidden Paradise lives up to its name, but not in a resort-style way. This is a true campground experience. It is simple, natural, and well cared for. The staff clearly takes pride in maintaining and improving the property.
Check-in is quick and easy. You pull up to the gate, head inside, provide your information, and you are on your way with a map and gate code in minutes.
Our site sat right along the river, where people float and canoe throughout the day. The sites are mostly gravel that transition into grass leading right to the water. It gives you that classic, relaxed camping feel.
Level: Good enough
Spacing: Good side-to-side, tighter front-to-back (if parking in certain spots along the river)
Access: Easy in and out
The campground follows a loop layout. Pro tip: drive the loop in the correct direction so your campsite faces the river.
During our stay, there was a biker festival with live music and food trucks, which added energy to the weekend. Most of the time, this campground is quiet and peaceful, especially at night.
Amenities include:
Bathhouse (clean and well-kept)
Lake with inflatables
Kayaking
Playground
Volleyball & basketball
Picnic areas
Camp store
One of the standout features is the walking loop. It takes you along the river, through wooded areas, and across open spaces. It is especially nice in spring and fall.
Only downside:
River sites do not offer 50 amp service. It is manageable if you plan around the seasons.
Local Eats
If you’re staying here, one place stands out:
🍔 St. Paul Tavern
This is one of those spots you do not expect, but end up loving.
Pizza, burgers, wings, tenderloins—it’s all solid
Karaoke on Thursdays, live music on weekends
Casual, welcoming atmosphere
Family-friendly section available
Many campers even take golf carts into town and park near the tavern, which adds to the fun local vibe.
Would we go back?
We already have many times.
The Drive & Area
Getting there is straightforward:
About 15 minutes south of I-74
Two-lane country roads
Easy towing with manageable turns
Fuel is accessible both near the interstate and in town.
One thing to be mindful of is a train bridge near the entrance where visibility is limited. Take it slow and you will be fine.
The surrounding area is simple and quiet. There is not much to do, but that is part of the appeal. It encourages you to slow down and enjoy the moment.
Nearby highlight:
White Rock Park (cliff diving & swimming)
Connectivity
If you’re coming here to work remotely… plan accordingly.
Cell Service (T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon): Poor
Data Speeds: Poor
Starlink: Limited due to heavy tree cover
We were able to get through a half day of work, but it was not easy.
If you stay in more open areas of the campground, Starlink should perform better.
Once you unplug, you realize you do not really miss it.
Would We Stay Again?
Yes, and not just for the campground itself, but for what it represents.
This place holds a lot of memories. Since 2017, it has been a go-to spot. During COVID, it became even more meaningful. It is also where Vahn met close friends and family for the first time, which made it even more special.
For us, Hidden Paradise is more than a campground. It is a place tied to meaningful moments and time spent with people we care about.
We would return for the same reason. Good people, simple moments, and a weekend that just feels right.
