Kamp Indy Review
A look at our campsite during our 30-day stay at Kamp Indy, just outside downtown Indianapolis.
Location + Stay Info
📍 Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
📅 Stayed: June 28 – July 26, 2025
⏳ Length: 30 Days
🏕 Type: Independent
Located on the southwest side of Indianapolis, Kamp Indy is a family-owned campground that makes a great home base when visiting friends and family in the area.
For us, this stay was all about coming back home. Being originally from the Indianapolis area, it gave us the opportunity to reconnect with people we hadn’t seen for a long time.
The only challenge during our visit was ongoing road construction nearby, which made getting in and out a bit tricky at times. The good news is most of that construction is wrapping up, which should make access much easier moving forward.

The Campground
Kamp Indy is a simple, well-kept campground with a straightforward layout that makes it easy to navigate. The park consists of one large loop with connecting streets, and the paved roads make getting around smooth and predictable.
Check-in was quick and easy. Pull in, head to the office, provide your information, and you’ll be on your way to your site within minutes.
The campground itself isn’t scenic, as it’s tucked into a business district, but it makes up for that with a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. The staff clearly takes pride in keeping the property clean and welcoming.
Our site was close to level and easy to access, but spacing is something to be aware of. The sites are tighter front to back, with your rear sitting close to another RV, and hookups shared between neighboring sites. Your camp-side area faces another camper across from you, creating a more communal layout.
Level: Close to level
Spacing: Tight front to back with shared hookups
Access: Easy to get in and out
Getting into and out of the site was not difficult, even with a larger rig. The simple layout and paved roads help, though it may feel tighter when the campground is more full.
Amenities include:
Dog park
Playground
Shower house
Laundry facility
We used the laundry facility during our stay, and it stood out immediately. It had just opened shortly before we arrived and was easily one of the nicest laundry setups we’ve seen. Clean, modern, and very well maintained.
One thing worth noting is the presence of geese throughout the campground. While not something the campground can control, it did mean regularly cleaning shoes and wiping our dog’s paws before heading back inside.
Another downside during our stay was the lack of a pool, especially given the summer heat. Combined with limited activities at the time, this may impact the experience for families with younger kids.
Overall, the campground felt quiet, relaxed, and well cared for.
Local Eats
We tried quite a few restaurants during our time in Indianapolis, but one stood out above the rest.
Mi Abuelito (Southside Indianapolis)
What we ordered: Carne Asada (street tacos)
Why it stood out: Some of the best tacos we’ve had in a long time
We liked it so much we went back twice during our stay.
If you’re looking to explore more of the Indy food scene, there are plenty of great options, including:
The Eagle’s Nest
St. Elmo Steak House
AJ’s Bar & Grill
Murphy’s Craft house
Wolfies Grill
Denver’s Garage Pizza & Brews
Ale Emporium
The Drive & Area
Getting to Kamp Indy was mostly highway driving, which made towing simple and manageable. The biggest factor during our stay was construction on the south side of Indianapolis, which added some traffic and required paying attention to routing.
The campground was helpful in providing directions around road closures, which made arrival much easier.
Drive difficulty: Easy
Road conditions: Mostly new and well maintained
Traffic: Heavier due to construction
The campground itself is tucked into a business district, but it’s conveniently located:
About 8 miles to downtown Indianapolis
About 6 miles to Greenwood shopping and dining
One of our favorite experiences during this stay was going white river rafting with family at Canoe Country in Daleville. It made for a fun and memorable day.
If you’re visiting in the fall, the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival is worth checking out, featuring dozens of historic bridges dating back to the 1800s.
Connectivity
We tested connectivity using T-Mobile and Starlink.
Cell signal: Good
Speeds: ~75–120 Mbps down, 15–20 Mbps up
Starlink: Reliable with minimal obstruction
Work capability: Fully capable for remote work and streaming
While performance was solid overall, we expected slightly faster speeds given the proximity to a major city. Still, everything worked reliably with no real frustrations.
Would We Stay Again?
Yes.
The staff was friendly, the campground was well maintained, and the overall experience was peaceful and enjoyable. The new laundry facility was a standout feature, and the location made it easy to spend time with family.
We would return for the same reason again, to visit home while bringing our home with us.
