Thousand Trails Orlando Review

A look at our site during one of our stays, showcasing the clean concrete pads in the newer section and the overall layout of the park.

Location + Stay Info

Located in Clermont, just southwest of Orlando, this is one of the largest Thousand Trails parks in the area. You’re right in the middle of everything—Disney, Universal, restaurants, shopping, and just about anything you could want within a short drive.

Despite being close to all the action, the campground balances it well. It’s lively and active during the day with constant activities, but settles down into a peaceful and quiet environment in the evenings.

The Campground

This is one of those parks that really stands out simply because of its size and variety. You can walk or bike for 30+ minutes and still feel like you’re exploring new areas. It’s almost like a small city built for RVers.

The biggest thing here is options. You want a modern, resort-style site with a full concrete pad and patio? You got it. Prefer something more traditional with gravel or dirt? That’s here too. Want trees and a more tucked-away feel? Also available. That flexibility makes it easy for a wide range of campers to enjoy this park.

Check-in was simple and efficient, which is impressive given how large the park is. Even with a lot of people coming and going, the process felt smooth.

We’ve stayed in both the old and new sections. The old section feels like a standard campground with gravel or dirt sites. The new section is a completely different experience with large concrete pads for your RV, vehicles, and outdoor setup.

  • Level: Old section was decent, new section was level

  • Spacing: Plenty of room between sites

  • Access: Easy to get in and out, even with a large rig

The park itself is busy during the day with a lot going on, but once the evening hits, it quiets down nicely and becomes very relaxing.

Cleanliness is solid overall, especially for a park this size. The main issues we noticed were related to pet waste and occasionally the laundry facilities needing a bit more attention.

Amenities include:

  • Pickleball courts

  • Swimming pools

  • Whirlpool

  • Shuffleboard

  • Lake and beach with dock

  • Boat and kayak rentals

  • Fishing

  • Mini golf

  • Playground

  • Billiards and game room

  • Business center

  • Dog park

  • Library

  • Horseshoes

  • Arts and crafts classes

  • Jam sessions

  • Aerobics classes

  • Line dancing and music events

  • Live bands and entertainment

We primarily used the laundry facilities, which worked fine but felt undersized in the newer section. With how many sites are there, only having a handful of machines felt like a miss.

One standout is how seamless check-in and check-out are. For a park of this scale, that’s not easy to pull off.

Overall, this is a fun, active, and flexible campground that works for just about any style of camper.

Local Eats

There are quite a few solid options nearby, and we found a few favorites during our stays.

Thailicious27 in Davenport had an incredible Bangkok Chicken dish that we still talk about. First Watch in Clermont is always a go-to, especially for their Sweet Honey Pecan Salad.

Sr. Tequila Mexican Grill delivered great street tacos, and China Gourmet had a really solid spicy General Tso.

We didn’t have any bad experiences with food here, and we would happily go back to any of these spots again.

The Drive & Area

Getting into the campground is very straightforward. You’re coming in on highways and larger roads, so there’s nothing overly stressful about the drive.

Traffic can get busy since you’re in the Orlando area, but as long as you take your time, it’s very manageable.

The surrounding area is packed with things to do. Within about 20 minutes, you have access to Disney, Universal, Old Town, and endless dining and entertainment options. It’s a great basecamp if you want to explore the area.

About 25 minutes away, you’ll find downtown Clermont, which is definitely worth a visit. The area has a small but charming downtown feel with boutique shops, local stores, and a handful of unique food options.

One standout spot is The Salt Shack, located right on Lake Minneola. It’s a really cool setup where boats can pull right up, and you can choose between indoor and outdoor seating. The atmosphere is upbeat and relaxed, making it a great place to grab a meal and enjoy the water views.

Downtown Clermont leans more toward a relaxed, adult-friendly outing rather than something built for kids. There are several boutique and souvenir-style shops that are fun to explore, especially if you enjoy browsing local finds and smaller, unique stores.

Connectivity

We tested T-Mobile during our stays and had a strong, reliable connection throughout.

Starlink also worked great thanks to mostly open skies with minimal obstruction.

Speeds were consistent enough for work, streaming, and everyday use. During peak seasons, you may notice some congestion, but nothing that would prevent you from getting things done.

If you work remotely, this is a very workable campground.

Would We Stay Again?

Yes—and we already have multiple times.

We come back here when we want to spend time in the greater Orlando area. It’s a great mix of convenience, activity, and flexibility.

Final Thoughts

This was the first campground we toured when we were considering Thousand Trails, and it ended up being one we’ve returned to multiple times.

One of our most memorable stays started with a challenge. We lost power shortly after arriving and went two full days without it. Communication from the park wasn’t great, and we eventually had to relocate sites ourselves just to get power. At the time, it was frustrating, especially in the heat without AC.

Looking back, it became one of those stories that sticks with you. It also taught us how important it is to be prepared, like having a generator.

What really stood out though was the people. We met some incredible neighbors during that time who helped us through it, and those connections are a big part of what makes this lifestyle so special.

Even with that experience, we came back again in December and had an amazing stay. That says a lot.

This park isn’t perfect, but it offers a ton of value, variety, and access to one of the busiest areas in Florida. For us, it’s a place we enjoy returning to for different reasons each time.
